Before applying for accommodations, it is advisable to take the Practice GEDas a trial of need, although no accommodations are available for the Practice GED.  Accommodations applications may be downloaded from the GED/ACE website:

Application for accommodations should be made before registering for the Official GED because the process of application, review and approval takes at least a month.  Once accommodations are approved, please be sure to request the specific accommodations that have been granted at registration and discuss those accommodations with the GED Examiner before starting any testing.

Some adaptations are available upon request without formal approval, but candidates need to ask in advance. Ask to speak with the GED Chief Examiner at registration.

Adaptations that don't need approval:

  • One test per day
  • Earplugs
  • Priority seating
  • Unmarked straightedge
  • Temporary adhesive tags such as Post-It® Notes
  • Transparent overlay with highlighter
  • Magnification device

Adaptations that require advance notice:

  • Large print test
  • Wheelchair accessability.

Items that may be brought from home to be inspected by Examiner prior to testing:

  • Pencil holder
  • Protection or shield from flourescent lighting
  • Wrist brace or splint
