These two 90-minute lectures will focus on the constitutional principles that have served to promote immigration to the United States and the rights of immigrants. Immigration laws and Supreme Court cases that deal with this subject will also be discussed.
Recent topics about immigration including “controlling the border,” “deporting illegals,” and “birthright citizenship” (referring to automatic citizenship of anyone born in this country) will be explored. On January 20, 2025, President Trump issued an Executive Order ending birthright citizenship. Several federal courts have ruled that his order violates the Constitution, and to date, the Supreme Court has not acted on the Government’s request for review.
